The Development of the Black British Novel

Join us as the GPI and New Beacon Books proudly present a discussion an d public reading on The Development of the Black British Novel  with authors Yvvette Edwards and Ruel White on Wednesday 19 October at 7:00pm.

White's novel Heroes Through the Day was published by New Beacon in 1990 and treated with the issue of Black working class youth. Edwards is a contemporary novelist whose work also shines a light on elements of the Black British experience; her most current book is titled The Mother

Questions relating to the changes/developments of the Black British novel, the challenges faced by earlier generations of authors and what difficulties are encountered  by today's novelists will be explored. 

The evening will be chaired by Deidre Osborne, Reader in English Literature and Drama at Goldsmiths University and is the second in a series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of New Beacon Books.
